Bejun Mehta stars as the first countertenor in history to sing the title role of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto at Teatro alla Scala on October 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 31 & November 2. La Scala presents an exciting new production by Robert Carsen, marking the second time this operatic masterpiece has been mounted at La Scala since 1956, which was then sung by a baritone.
A world-renowned cast joins Mehta onstage, including Danielle de Niese as Cleopatra, Sara Mingardo as Cornelia, Philippe Jaroussky as Sesto, Christophe Dumaux as Tolomeo, Christian Senn as Achilla, Renato Dolcini as Curio, and Luigi Schifano as Nireno. Giovanni Antonini will conduct the Baroque ensemble of the theatre’s Orchestra following their applauded performances of Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno and Tamerlano by Händel in recent seasons.
