Tommaso Traetta [Trajetta], painting by Michele Francesco Saverio

The Traetta Society has announced that Bejun Mehta is the winner of the 2015 Traetta Prize. The news was shared during Traetta Week, an international festival in celebration of Tommaso Traetta (1727-1779), which is taking place in London, Madrid, Venice, Valencia, and Bari. The award is given in honor of Traetta, an acclaimed composer of the Neopolitan School, and celebrates artists who have dedicated their time and talents to expanding cultural awareness of Traetta’s music and of 18th C reform composers in general. Bejun dedicated three tracks on his award-winning album Che Puro Ciel to Traetta, with selections from the composer’s operas Antigona and Ifigenia in Tauride.
