Bejun Mehta is on the shortlist for not one, but two 2014 Gramophone Awards. The 2013 live recording of George Benjamin’s Written on Skin from the Royal Opera House is nominated in the Contemporary category, and features Bejun in the role of Angel 1/The Boy. In his Gramophone review, Richard Fairman states that this is “A new opera that will surely repay repeated viewings.”
The second nomination is for Mr. Mehta’s solo recital recording “Che Puro Ciel,” which is shortlisted in the Recital category. This album highlights music from J.C. Bach, Gluck, Hasse, Mozart, and Traetta, featuring three selections per composer. Of the recording, Richard Wigmore said it is, “. . . the most enjoyable, intelligently planned countertenor recital to have come my way in many years.”
